Guilin 144-hour Visa Free Policy for ASEAN 10 Countries

Mia Guilin Travel Guide China Visa Policy 2023-05-06

Guilin is a renowned tourist destination in China and worldwide. In 2014, it launched the 72-hour Visa-Free Policy for transit passengers from 51 countries. Additionally, since May 28th 2019, Guilin Liangjiang International Airport has also introduced a new 144-hour Visa-Free policy for ASEAN group tourists. The new rule simplifies the entry process and provides more flexibility for travelers from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar (Burma), Singapore, Brunei, and the Philippines. This policy was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic and is now being re-implemented on March 15, 2023.

What is the visa-free policy for ASEAN tourist groups entering Guilin?

Starting from May 28, 2015, Guilin Airport Port began to implement a 144-hour visa-free policy for tourist groups from the ASEAN 10 countries (Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Singapore, Brunei, and the Philippines) holding ordinary passports. Tourist groups from these countries (consisting of 2 or more people) can be organized and received by travel agencies with qualifications approved by the competent tourism authorities of Guilin. These agencies are responsible for arranging the whole group's entry into Guilin without a visa from the airport port, ensuring that the group's activities within the administrative area of Guilin do not exceed 6 days, and organizing the whole group's departure from Guilin Airport Port.

How to apply for the visa-free visit to Guilin

Step 1: Prior to your trip, get in touch with a Guilin-based travel agency that has been authorized by the National Tourist Administration to receive tour groups who enjoy the 144-hour visa free policy. ETripChina has been on the approved list.

Step 2: Finalize your travel itinerary in Guilin and get your flight tickets ready. The local agency will then declare your travel group and tourist information (passport info, itinerary, accommodation, and flight tickets) to the Guilin Immigration Authority in advance. The registration must be done at least 24 hours prior to your arrival.

Step 3: Upon arrival, fill out the Arrival Card and proceed to the specialized "Fast Track" to the visa-free counter. Have all the required documents ready (passport, flight ticket, etc.), go through border inspection, and complete customs clearance.

Step 4: While staying in Guilin, make sure to explore within its administrative regions while adhering to the 144-hour limit. Remember to depart from Guilin Liangjiang International Airport with your group to begin your Guilin tour.

Difference between the 72-hour transit policy and 144-hour visa free policy?

Guilin implemented a 72-hour transit visa-free policy (China Visa-free Transit Policy: 24-hour, 72-hour, 144-hour )for 53 countries and a 144-hour visa-free policy for ASEAN group tourists, making it the only city in China with both policies.
