How to Plan Yunnan Tours

The above itineraries are all well-designed based on our own experiences and feedback from our customers. Here are some tips to help you make the decision out of your interests, timing and budget.

How much time do you have in Yunnan?

Yunan refers to the vast land of the whole provinces. A short stay could only allow you a taste of one or two cities like Kunming, Dali or Lijiang which has flight connections with the other big cities. We always suggested at least 4 days to cover Kunming and Lijiang, 6 days to add in Dali, 8 days to go further to Shangrila. And 3-4 more days to cater for special interests like Tiger leaping gorge hiking, Dongchuan Red Land and Yuanyuang Rice Terraces Fields Photography. That all depends on your time and interests. Send a simple request to tailor make a Yunnan trip.

When do you want to travel?

Climate vary a lot in different region of Yunnan. The northwest area sits on the high plateau bordering Tibet, which is depressingly cold in winter. The right season for Shangri-la is from May to October with flowers, trees and crystal-clear lakes. July and August are the rainy season, no hiking trips to Tiger Leaping gorge is suggested. Yuanyang Terraces Fields and Dongchuan Red Land turn on different faces in different season. The hot destinations of Kunming, Dali and Lijiang are suitable for travel all year around.
