The Forbidden Cityis an immensely popular destination in Beijing, drawing tourists from all over the world. However, securing tickets for entry can be quite challenging. Have you ever thought exploring the Forbidden City from a different angle? Then you must come to Jingshan Park, which provides a perfect panoramic view of the Forbidden City from afar.


Introudction of Jingshan Park:

Jingshan Park, located along Beijing's central north-south axis, boasts Wanchun Pavilion as its premier viewpoint. From here, visitors can enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the majestic Forbidden City to the south, while to the north, sights include the stately Shouhuang Hall, Drum Tower, and Olympic Tower. Towards the east lies a distant view of the vibrant CBD, while the west showcases the serene White Pagoda of Beihai Park and a splendid sunset over the Western Hill.

There’re great of interests in the Park those are worth a visit: Wanchun Pavilion, Guanmiao Pavilion, The Hall of Imperial Longevity (or Shouhuang Hall), Guande Hall, Temple Of Guan Yu, Zhoushang Pavilion, Jifang Pavilion, Peony Garden and etc.

Suggested Route:

Enter from South Gate - Ascend from the eastern slope of the back hill - Visit Wanchun Pavilion - Descend from the west side - Visit Shouhuang Hall and another areas - Exit from East Gate

Photography Recommendations:

  1. Arrive at Wanchun Pavilion by 4:30 PM on a clear day to witness the stunning sunset casting an orange hue over the Forbidden City. The golden light illuminates its domes, creating an enchantingly beautiful scene.

  2. After snowfall, Jingshan Park becomes a winter wonderland with glistening white snow. Overlooking the Forbidden City reveals ancient red walls and palaces blanketed in pristine white, offering a stunning contrast.

  3. Use a telephoto lens to capture the depth of the Forbidden City, enhancing its intricate layers and architectural features. It helps detail palace walls and the distant Drum Tower, enriching the composition.

 

Useful tips:

1.     Most tourists visit Jingshan Park after exploring the Forbidden City. Simply exit from the Shenwu Gate of the Forbidden City, and you'll find the South Gate of Jingshan Park directly opposite, connected by an underground passage.

2.     Coming out from the West Gate of Jingshan Park, you'll find the East Gate of Beihai Park directly opposite. For those heading to Prince Gong's Mansion or the Shichahai area, it's advisable to exit from the east gate of Jingshan Park, then turn right, and you'll find the bus stop conveniently located nearby.

3.     On the right side of the south gate, you'll find the hiking trail to the top (Wanchun Pavilion), while to the left is the Visitor Service Center. Here you can avail yourself of complimentary hot water, access maternity rooms, and rent wheelchairs and strollers. However, please note that luggage storage services are not available.
