The same as Lijiang, the old town of Pingyao together with Shuanglin Temple and Zhenguo Temple is inscribed on UNESCO list as world heritage site. This walled town was developed from 14th century and prosperous from the 19th century to the early 20th century. It is one of the significant relics left by Jin merchants. The town is well-preserved to its former looking. When exploring the town, you will see Rishengchang-the first China Ban, Armed Escort Museum, Ancient Government office and Ming-qing Street. Locals still live in the dwellings and run shops making this aged town a living and breathing community. International Photography Festival held here annually since 2001 adding charm of the town.
