Wuyuan: the "most beautiful countryside in China"

Wuyuan is a county located in the northeastern part of Jiangxi province. It is increasing mentioned as the "most beautiful countryside in China" due to its stunning landscapes of rolling hills, clear rivers, and fields of yellow rapeseed flowers. Wuyuan has a long history dating back to the Han dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE). There are many well-preserved ancient villages, temples, and ancestral halls that showcase the unique architectural style of the region. For Chinese people, Wuyuan is also known as the hometown of Zhu Xi, a famous Neo-Confucianism philosopher in the Southern Song Dynasty, and the birthplace of Zhan Tianyou, the father of Chinese railways.
