Night Visit Longmen Grottoes: 18:00-21:00, only available for West Hill Cave(西山石窟) and the Xiangshan Temple(香山寺)

The Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, Henan Province, boast the world's largest collection of stone carving art, hailed by UNESCO as the pinnacle of Chinese stone carving. Being one of China's three major grottoes, alongside the Yungang Grottoes in Datong and the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, Longmen Grottoes are a significant World Cultural Heritage site, a crucial national cultural relic protection unit, and a premier National 5A-level tourist destination.

Suggest Route:

No.1 North Gate(北1门)-West Hill Cave(西山石窟)- East Hill Cave(东山石窟)-Xiangshan Temple(香山寺)-White Garden(白园)- Northwest Service Area (西北服务区)

Photography Recommendations:

Best time for taking photos: The morning and evening light is soft, making it the golden hour for photography.

Photography angle: It is recommended to shoot Buddha statues from a low angle, which will create a spectacular visual effect.

Must-visit photography spots:

1.     The observation deck at East Hill Cave offers a panoramic and stunning view of the West Hill Cave.

2.     Take a photo with the main Buddha "Scissorhands" at North Bingyang Cave.

3.     Fengxian Temple(奉先寺): the largest Buddha statue Vairocana Buddh(大卢舍那像龛) at the Longmen Grottoes.

4.     Cixisi Temple Cave, or Hidden Stream Temple Cave(潜溪寺):a large cave on the northern edge of the West Hill.

5.     Cave of Ten Thousand Buddhas(万佛洞)

6.     Guyang Cave(古阳洞), the oldest and largest cave, located in the central part of the West Hill.

Useful Tips:

1.     Children with a height of 1.4 meters and below are admitted to the park directly. Children with a height of 1.4 meters above, holding passports, are charged the same price as adults.

2.     The Longmen Grottoes have two entrances, the Northwest Service Area and the Northeast Service Area. It is recommended to enter from the Northwest Service Area, as it is closer to the ticket checkpoint (800 meters).

3.     After the visit, if you’re in the northwest service area with a distance away, it is advisable to take a sightseeing bus, which is priced at 10CNY per person.

4.     Since 20 March 2024, Longmen Night Tour will be open in West Hill Cave(西山石窟) and the Xiangshan Temple(香山寺) from 18:00 to 21:00.

5.     Most of the Grottoes are located halfway up the mountain and are accessed by stairs, making it inconvenient for strollers and wheelchairs. The terrain is not very knee-friendly for elderly visitors.

6.     Pets are not allowed in the scenic area; playing with drones is prohibited.
