Zhouzhuang
About
Zhouzhuang introduction
Zhouzhuang, known as "China's No.1 Water Town," is the most famous and representative of all Jiangnan water towns. Located in Kunshan, near Suzhou, it sits between Shanghai, Suzhou, and Zhejiang, making it easy to visit from major cities. With nearly 1,000 years of history, Zhouzhuang is built entirely around water. Canals weave through the town, and traditional houses line the banks, creating a classic scene of bridges, boats, and riverside life. Many homes still retain their Ming and Qing dynasty architectural style, and the compact old town preserves numerous historic residences and ornate stone gateways. Recognized as a National 5A Scenic Area and one of the world's most beautiful towns, Zhouzhuang is more than an open-air museum - it remains a living water town, where local life continues amid timeless scenery.
