Shigatse introduction

Shigatse(日喀则) is the second-largest city in Tibet and is located 277 kilometers west of Lhasa city. It is an important cultural and religious center in Tibet with a history dating back to the seventh century. The city is home to the famous Tashilhunpo Monastery, which was founded by the first Dalai Lama in 1447 and is one of the most important Gelugpa monasteries in Tibet. Apart from its religious significance, Shigatse is also known for its natural beauty. Brahmaputra River runs through the city and towering peaks of the Himalayas are in the south of the city. Many visitors come to explore its historic sites, stunning scenery and make way to Everest Mountain, or extend to Nepal.
