Arrive in Lhasa

Lhasa is one of the highest cities in the world and is a city of wonder to all the visitors. Under the government-led development, the city now has flight and train connection to major cities in China.

Upon your arrival in Lhasa, guide will meet you at the train station/ flight arrival, then transfer you to the hotel to check in. Local guide will brief you the dos and don'ts in Lhasa. Take a good rest to prepare for the trip in the next few days.

Lhasa

Activities: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street

Start visit from the Potala Palace which is the most grandiose palaces in the world, decorated countless statues, murals and antiques. The outstanding structure is built on the red hill and as old as the Lhasa city and has a history of more than 1300 years.

Come next is Jokhang Temple, for most Tibetans it is the most sacred and important temple in Tibet. Its architectural style is a mixture of Indian vihara design, Chinese Tang Dynasty design, and Nepalese design. And the temple is at the heart of a rich and living Tibetan Buddhism.

Surrounding the temple is Barkhor Street. It is a popular devotional circuit for pilgrims and locals. For visitors, it is a colorful, lively and authentic street with hundreds of stores and vendors selling all kinds of Tibetan items.

Lhasa

Activities: Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, Norbulingka Palace

Today's visit includes three iconic attractions in Lhasa. Start with the Drepung Monastery, located at the foot of Mount Gephel, which the largest monastery in the world. It is housed 7,700 monks and built in 1416. The monastery is considered as one of the 'Three Great Monasteries' along with Garden and Sera.

Then comes to Sera Monastery, built in 1419, which is one the three Gelugpa monasteries in Lhasa.

You will also see Norbulingka Palace, considered to be the largest man made garden in Tibet, which covers an area of around 36 hectares (89 acres). Standing in the west side of Lhasa, It was built by the 7th Dalai Lama and served both administrative and religious purposes.

Lhasa to Shigatse

Activities: Gyangtze city, Pallor Chorten

Shigatse is about 264km Lhasa. Road journey is about 6 hours and offers unbeatable view all the way long. Stop at the Enjoy Yamdrok Lake for photo opportunities. It is the largest habitat for water birds in Tibet. The lake attracts countless swans and gulls every summer. It is over 72 k m (45 mi) long and many snow-capped mountains as backdrop. It has the highest power station in the world.

When reach Gyangtze city, visit the Pallor Chorten in the area, which is very different from other monasteries. Its structural style is very unique and reputed as the lord of Tibetan stapes. In addition, it is famous for the architecture, sculpture, and mural painting art.

Afterwards, continue journey to Shigatse and stay overnight there.

Shigatse to Dingri

Activities: Tashilhungpo Monastery

Admire the largest monastery in Shigatse, the Tashilhungpo Monastery, which is located on the southern slope of the Nyima Mountain to the west of the Xigaze city. It is one of the four monasteries of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery covers 150,000 square meters. Facing south, the complex is built symmetrically against the Nyima Mountain. Its wall built according to the topography of the mountain.

Afterwards, continue road journey to Dingri, the nearest point to Mount Everest Base.

Mt. Everest Base Camp

Get up early and head for the Mount Everest camp base.

Mount Everest, the highest peak on the Earth, which attracts many highly experienced mountaineers. It is located in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas. Its peak is 8,848 meters above sea level. The Olympic Torch for the 2008 Beijing Olympics was taken to the peak and lit, making it the first time ever for the Olympic torch to be lit on the "top of the world".

A journey to the Mt. Everest Base Camp, it is a both physical and psychological challenge to visitors, but it will definitely reward them with the most unparalleled views – a panorama of Himalayan peaks - and never-forgotten beautiful memories.

Dingri to Shigatse

If time permits, visit here the Rongbuk Monastery, built in 1899, which is the highest monastery on the earth. Its altitude is 5,100 meters (16728 feet). Then drive back to Shigatse and stay one night there.

Shigatse to Lhasa

Activities: Tibet Museum

Drive some 260km from Shigatse to Lhasa.

For the energetics, visit the Tibet Museum when back to Lhasa city. It is the official and the first modern museum of the Tibet in Lhasa. It has a permanent collection related to the cultural history of Tibet. This museum has a collection of around 1000 artifacts. The tour bus will leave Shigatse for Lhasa.
