Arrival at Lhasa (3700m)

Arrival at Gonggar airport and meet our staff there. Then you will be transferred to Lhasa with other participants. Driving journey is one and half hours. After check in your hotel, you will be at leisure for acclimatization, or visit local bazaar on your own.

Lhasa.

After breakfast, guided sightseeing starts with the Lhasa's cardinal landmark- Potala Palace. This massive 13-soreyed building built as the former winter abode for the Dalai Lamas. It was the highest building prior to the early period of last century. It looks incredibly magnificent from a distance and could be viewed from various places around the town. In the afternoon, you visit Sera Monastery, which was founded in 1419 by Sakya Yeshe, a disciple of Tsongkhapa. The "Buddhism Scriptures Debating" in Sera is a big draw to all visitors interested in Buddhist culture.

Lhasa

You will begin your morning tour from the most sacred religious structure in Tibet-Jokhang Temple. Jokhang, refers to "Buddha's House" in Tibetan language, and the Temple is named after the main statue enshrined that is said to be made by Buddha Sakyamuni himself in his lifetime. Jokhang Temple has a great importance in Tibet's Spiritual and secular life, like Mecca for the Muslims. The surrounding market is called Barkhor, one of the most important religious paths, which also assembles people for shopping. In the afternoon, visit of Norbulingkha, the summer palace of the Dalailama.

Day Lhasa-Tsedang -Samye 165km

Today you will leave lhasa city and drive along the Tsangpo River to Tsedang. The greatest attraction in the area is Samye monastery, which is believed to be Tibet's first monastery erected between 775 and 779. The original building was destroyed over centuries by wars and natural disasters, but the monastery has been rebuilt and remains the symbol of Tibet's national identity. Its main building is a three-story tower mixed with Tibetan, Han and Indian styles. In the afternoon visit Yumbulakhang Palace. It is said to be the first building of Tibet as the palace for the first Tibetan king.

Tsedang -Yamdroktso-Gyantse

After breakfast, drive 340 km from Tsedang to Gyanste for 3.5 hours. Highlights of the journey is an overlooking view of Yangdrok Lake at 4790m high Kambala Pass. Then drive along the lakeside and stop for great photo opportunities. Arrive Gyangtse in the late afternoon, arriving in Gyangtse and pay a visit to Perkhor Chode monastery in the sunset time.

Gyantse-Shigatse(3800m)

After breakfast, we leave the small town of Gyantse to Shigatse, which is only second to Lhasa city. The most attractive attraction is Tashilhunpo Monastery, home of Tibet's Panchen Lama, a sprawling complex with a gigantic Maitreya (Future Buddha) statue. Visit Shigatse's outdoor market for some real treasures.

Shigatse-Lhasa.280km, 3.5hrs

Today you will drive along the Yarlung Zsangpo River back to Lhasa. On the way stop at a small village side the road to visit the Tibetan handmade incense mill and workshop.

To get the travel permits:

  • All travelers can get Tibet permit through our travel agency except diplomats, journalists, and senior government officials who should travel to Tibet under the arrangement by the Foreign Affairs Office of Tibet Government. Documents required for the application includes fixed tour itinerary, copy of valid passport, copy of Chinese visa. And it should be done at least 15 days prior to the arrival in Tibet.
  • If you enter Tibet via Kathmandu, you'd better get China visa from Kathmandu because no matter you've already got the visa in your country or not, you must get a visa in Kathmandu, which is regulated in an official memo between China and Nepal.

Altitude Sickness

  • Most of the places in Tibet is over 3500 meters, and many visitors are likely to experience some minor to symptoms and discomfort of altitude sickness (headache, mild nausea, loss of appetite, trouble sleeping) until they adjust to the elevation. It is advisable to rest for several hours to acclimatize to the altitude, drink non-alcoholic liquids, eat light, high-carbohydrate meals for more energy.

Important Notes:

  • Potala Palace has limited visitors to 2300 per day to protect the Historical Heritage. Your sightseeing order in Tibet is supposed to be adjusted accordingly. We promise you will not miss Potala Palace during your stay in Tibet, but we cannot guarantee the visiting time to be exactly as scheduled.
  • In Tibet, vehicles are not installed with Air-Conditioner to better protect the environment.
