It is situated in Tianshan national park, surrounded by dense forest, valleys and rocky mountains.The blue lake water is finely contrasted with steep forested hills, high meadows and snowy Heavenly Mountain peaks behind. Today you will visit Red Hill Park , a symbol of Urumqi, it is called as "the eyes of Urumqi ". Red Hill is composed of the purple and red glutenite massifs formed in Permian Period, when the sunlight hits the red hill, the rocks of the mountain reflected a bright red color, hence the name "red mountain".

Then come to visit the world's largest International Bazaar, which is concentration of islamic culture, architecture, national trade, catering and entertainment, tourism product collection and exhibition center, regarded as "window of the central Asia".

Turpan

Activities: The Ruins of the Ancient City of Jiaohe, Suleiman Minaret,Tuyogou Village and Tuyugou Canyon

In the morning, visit the Ruins of the Ancient City of Jiaohe, one of the most ancient architectural sites in the world which is hidden in Yarnaz Valley. It was built by the ancient Cheshi people in the Qin Dynasty and the Han Dynasty.The city, situated along the Silk Road, played a pivotal role in the economic communication between Western and Eastern countries. Then visit Suleiman Minaret which is also known as Sugong Tower, it is the biggest ancient tower existing in Xinjiang and the only ancient Islamic minaret in the country. It is located 2 kilometers southeast of Turpan's center.

In the afternoon, visit Tuyogou Village and Tuyugou Canyon, Tuyoq Village is an ancient oasis-village with a history more than 1,000 years in the Taklamakan desert. the Tuyugou Great Canyon is the canyon with the longest culture and the most majestic natural landscapes.

Turpan

Activities: Gaochang Ruins, Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves, Pass through the Flaming Mountain, The Karez Wells

In the morning, visit Gaochang Ruins, "the King City'. It was founded during the first century B.C. and abandoned during the 15th century, an important point on the Silk Road.Ascending a height to enjoy a distant view, you can see the whole city in a plane shape of an irregular square, which is divided into three parts the exterior city, interior city and the palace city. The total area is about two million square meters.

Then come to visit Bizaklik Thousand Buddha Caves, which is the rock-cut building with the most caves and frescos contents at most in Turpan area. It is located on the west cliffs of the Wood Valley of the Flame Mountain, 45 kilometers away from Turpan city. The history of the Caves is more early than Dunhuang but unfortunately that most murals were damaged by nature or by man-made.

Pass through the Flaming Mountain, the hottest place in China, overshadow the cradle of the Turpan ancient civilization and oasis agriculture. They provide a spectacular backdrop to the oases and scenery of the Turpan area, and have given rise to many legends and stories, such as the classic "Journey to the West".

The Karez Wells is located adjacent to Turpan, the System of which is a underwater irrigation system, over 2,000 years ago during the Han dynasty the basic shape was already formed, which is considered to be one of the three great ancient projects in China. These systems are still maintained and functioning today. The famous fruit and vineyards of these hot, dry desert communities owe their existence to the Karez wells.

Hotel to Train station Transfer (Turpan), Meet at Liuyuan Station and transfer to Dunhuang: Liuyuan train station is one hour driver journey away from Dunhuang city. It is the nearest high-speed train station to Dunhuang.Guide and driver will meet you there as scheduled.You will be leisure for the rest of the day.

Guide will accompany you to visit the Mogao Grottoes which is regarded as the largest Buddhist cave with the most abundant cultural relics in the world. There are varied masterpieces of art on wall paintings, stucco sculpture, architecture, calligraphy, woodblock printing, embroidery, silk painting, literature and so forth. The caves contain the largest and the richest Buddhist art in the world reflecting the political and social situations from 4th to the 14th century in Chinese history. Then viist the Singing Sand Mountains and Crescent Spring, which is an oasis in a desert, surrounded by the Singing Sand Mountains. The spring's name derives from the crescent-shaped lake formed by the spring water between two huge sand dunes. Although the area is very dry, the pool doesn't dry up as one might expect.

Activities: The Great Wall of the Han Dynasty, Yumenguan Pass, The Western Thousand Buddha Caves

In the morning, visit the Great Wall of the Han Dynasty which was build for defending the nomadic Xiongnu during the Han Dynasty (206 BC--220 AD). Then visit Yumenguan Pass, an important frontier pass along the northern branch of Silk Road, 80 kilometers northwest of Dunhuang city. It witnessed the prosperity of the ancient trading route. After lunch, visit the Western Thousand Buddha Caves, the caves hold the carvings in the Wei Dynasty (220-265 A. D.)

Jiayuguan

Activities: The Jiayuguan Pass(including Great Walls Museum), The Great Wall on the Cliff, The Plundered Tombs of the Wei and Jin

In the morning, visit the Jiayuguan Pass(including Great Walls Museum) which is the most magnificent and best-preserved pass among over a thousand Great Wall passes. It's regarded as "First Pass Under Heaven" . The adjacent Great Wall Museum is full of artifacts tracing the history of the world's longest wall.

Then come to visit Overhanging Great Wall, the wall of which looks like a magnificent painting hanging over the cliff. It is also an important part of the defense network of Jiayuguan.

Later, visit the Plundered Tombs of the Wei and Jin which is 15 kilometers northeast of Jiayuguan, there are over 1,400 tombs which were built during the Wei and Jin dynasties (between the 3rd and 5th century). They feature brick wall paintings showing various social activities of the times.

It is recorded that the premier of Western Hsia once discovered a Buddha covered by a bluish-green tile, thus the Grand Buddha Temple was initially built.

Activities: Longwu Monastery, Wutun Monastery

In the morning, visit Longwu Monastery, which is one of the Gelukpa (Yellow Hat) sects and is known as a center of Tibetan Thangka painting. It was founded in 1301 and is the largest Gelukpa temple in the Qingnan Area covering about 100 hectares.

In the afternoon, visit Wutun Monastery which is famous throughout Tibet for its beautiful artwork of Buddhist art of Thangka. There are two monasteries in Wutun village, one is upper Wutun Monastery, another is lower Wutun Monastery. Upper Wutun Monastery is magnificently decorated, and the surface of the entire assembly hall has been carved and painted with traditional Regong designs. Lower Wutun Monastery is just about 10 minutes' walk from the upper village. It boasts a much livelier monastery as the location for ceremonies and festivities that draw crowds of local worshippers.

Then visit the Huayan Temple which is the largest and most perfectly preserved temple of the Liao (916-1125) and Jin (1115-1234) dynasties in China. It is considered a museum of art of the Liao Dynasty. Its buildings, statues and frescos all present the masterpieces of the Liao Dynasty. Inside the temple 31 statues made in the Liao Dynasty are well preserved. 21 large-scale frescos of the Qing Dynasty are still bright colored and resplendent.
